We are a group of musicians from El Salvador, Chile, Bolivia and Ecuador. Our strength comes from our
passion for Latin American culture and in particular its music. Tumi de los Andes' members have travelled around the world
sharing musical experiences witn different cultures. As a group we create a breath taking musical environment due to the high
skills shown in every performance.
After performing individually in different bands such as Tinkuna, Inka Marka, Walisuma, Nacascol etc,
in countries such as Guatemala, Costa Rica, Mexico, Scotland,England, France, Belgium, Israel, Italy, Peru, Bolivia, Australia
etc, we have conformed the most talented and respected traditional South American music bands in Australia.
Danilo Davila was born in Bolivia and at a very young age he joined different andean music bands in
Australia. Nowadays he is regarded as one of the best charango players. He surely inspires other musicians when performing
the charango.
Manuel Garay (Ecuador) and Marco (Lopez) show in every occasion why they are regarded among the best
South American musicians performing the traditional zamponas and quenas.
Despite growing up in Australia, Marco has developed a technique to play the different sizes of zamponas.
He is admired by the experts in this field for his Toyo playing (see Toyo in instruments page).
Manuel has performed extensively around Europe with different South American bands and has made Australia
home since 1997 when in Israel, he accepted an invitation to participate in the Bondi festival. He was the founder of "Los
Inkas del Ecuador" a South American band considered the pioneer of South American music in the Middle East.
Reinaldo Portillo-Castro was musically educated at the "Extension Universitaria Department" University
of El Salvador, his country of birth. He is a versatile and experienced musician performing different styles of music (Tropical,
Rock, Traditional Latin American and even the Eastern European Gypsy) in some of the most highly regarded international festivals
such as "II Festival de Rock Latinoamericano" in Guatemala, Edinburgh Festival in Scotland, Leeds International Festival and
Stockton International Festival in England etc. Reinaldo has toured Australia doing school workshops in the las 5 years performing
for the Queensland Arts Council, Regional Victoria Arts Council and for the Department of Education, as a member of Latin
and Caribbean Music Productions. As a guitarrist, Reinaldo has brought a Cuban, Central American and Brasilian influence to
the band; he has introduced the "Tres Cubano" (see instruments page) into our repertoire adding a highly entertaining and
most enjoyable feeling for all of us who love dancing.
As a traditional music band we pay homage to a great civilisation The Incas. We believe there is a
responsibility as sons of a great culturein providing the people of the world a testimony of the living harmonyand respect
our ancestors had for mother nature (La Pachamama). We assume this responsibility and through our music and the music of our
ancestors we want you to think about those spiritual values that bring peace to human beings. Tumi de los Andes also believes
in having a spiritual responsibility and that no matter what your spiritual beliefs are, we ask you share with us and with
everyone else those common values that bring us peace.
Tumi de los Andes' members come from different regions in Latin America. That makes us proud. It is
due to that diversity in musical backgrounds that Tumi de los Andes has that particular touch that transforms every performance
into a well deserved "fiesta" for the public. The color, sound and exotic traditional dances will keep you moving all night
long.
